Huge Second Half Propels No. 21 Men’s Basketball Past No. 6 Southwestern, 88-85

WINFIELD, Kan. – Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball picked up a huge road victory over No. 6 Southwestern College on Saturday afternoon.

The Eagles trailed 42-36 at the break, but scored 52 second-half points and held on for a three-point win.

With the win, OKWU (12-6) moves to within two games of Southwestern (14-4) for the top overall spot in the conference standings.

Josh Wilchcombe led the Eagles with a double-double of 24 points and 12 rebounds and also knocked down two big free throws in the final seconds on his way to an 8-for-9 effort at the line.

KJ Malvaeu finished with a game-high 25 points after going 7-for-13 from behind the three-point line. Breiman Alexander came off the bench and recorded 14 points, four rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Isaac Rowe added nine points, five rebounds, and five assists to round out the top statistical leaders for Oklahoma Wesleyan.

As a team, the Eagles shot 47%(31/66) from the field and 47%(14/30) from behind the arc.

DJ Wallace led the Moundbuilders in scoring with 21 points on 9-of-14 shooting.
