Lady Eagles Hold Off Ottawa at Home With Strong Second Half

The Lady Eagles and Ottawa Braves were toe-toe throughout the first two quarters of this KCAC matchup. OKWU came out of the locker room for the second half to a 31-34 deficit and were dialed on both ends of the court. They locked it down on on the defensive end as the only allowed the Braves to shoot 29% from the field (20% from the 3-point arc) and score just 8 points in the third quarter. The stiff defense by the Lady Eagles opened the offensive side of the game as they shot 46% from the field even though they had a tough night from beyond the 3-point arc. OKWU would finish the game 40% from the field and a 64-57 victory over Ottawa to protect their home court.

Sophomore guard Danae Goodwin led the OKWU scorers with 14 points, 7 rebounds and had 3 steals on the day. Freshmen center Makayla Melton also had a good day on the offensive end as she went 6/7 from the field for 13 points, along with 4 rebounds and 1 block. Freshman guard Jo Harbison added a spark off of the bench as she collected 10 points, 3 assists, and 2 steals.

With the win, the Lady Eagles improved their overall record to 10-6 and are now 6-5 in the KCAC. They will look to protect their home floor again on Monday, January 7th as they host Southwestern College at 5:30 PM to continue OKWU’s Community Appreciation Weekend.
