BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball held on for a 73-70 victory over Friends University behind a 34-point performance from KJ Malveau.
With the win, the Eagles advance to the KCAC Tournament Championship game and will face Southwestern College.
Malveau shot 12-for-17 from the field and went 7-for-10 from behind the three-point line. He also dished out four assists and pulled down three rebounds. Josh Wilchcombe recorded yet another double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds while shooting 8-for-19 from the field. Isaak Rowe was the only other Eagle to reach double-figures as he recorded 13 points, five rebounds, and five assists.
As a team, Oklahoma Wesleyan shot 45% (29/65) from the field and 38% (8/21) from behind the arc. They outrebounded Friends 39 to 34 and forced the Falcons into 12 turnovers.
The Eagles held the nation’s leading scorer, Jordan Murdock (30.3ppg), to just 15 points on 4-of-15 shooting.
Oklahoma Wesleyan will take on Southwestern in the KCAC Championship on Monday, February 26th, at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas. Tip-off against the Moundbuilders is scheduled for 8:00pm and will be aired on ESPN 3.
