Men’s Basketball Claims KCAC Tournament Championship with 84-64 Victory Over Southwestern

PARK CITY, Kan. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball team claimed their first KCAC Tournament Championship with an 84-64 victory over Southwestern College at Hartman Arena in Park City, Kansas.

After holding a three-point lead at halftime 32-29, the Eagles pulled away in the second half and outscored the Moundbuilders 52-35.

 

Josh Wilchcombe was dominant from his forward position and earned another double-double. Wilchcombe finished the game with 16 points and a game-high 19 rebounds. KJ Malveau led Oklahoma Wesleyan in scoring with a game-high 22 points after going 3-for-7 from behind the arc and also dished out six assists.

 

Isaak Rowe also collected a double-double after going 6-for-11 from the field for 19 points and pulling down 10 rebounds. Jake Feickert connected on three triples from behind the arc for nine points, while Elbert Lawrence knocked down two three-pointers finishing with eight points.

 

The Eagles shot 41% (29/70) from the field and 43% (10/23) from behind the three-point line. They outrebounded Southwestern 49 to 46 on the glass and collected nine blocks as a team.

 

Cameron Hunt led Southwestern in scoring with 14 points.

 

With the victory, Oklahoma Wesleyan earns an automatic berth into the NAIA National Tournament which will take place in Souix Falls, South Dakota, March 7th-13th. The Eagles will find out there opponent when the bracket is announced on Wednesday, February 28th, on the NAIA Network.
