SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s basketball team opened the NAIA National Tournament with an overtime victory over Bethel College (Ind.) 83-75.
The Eagles got off to a fast start leading 13-3 after eight minutes of play. They would hold the lead heading into the break at 33-26. After the two teams traded buckets for majority of the second half, a late run by Bethel (Ind.) sent the game to overtime tied at 64-64.
Oklahoma Wesleyan went on a 10-0 run to start the overtime period and would hold on for an eight-point victory over the Pilots.
Jake Feickert led the Eagles with a game-high 24 points on a 5-for-7 shooting performance from behind the arc. Feickert also went 5-for-6 from the free-throw line and pulled down six rebounds. Josh Wilchcombe dominated the paint and earned another double-double. The 6-8 junior recorded 21 points on 7-of-13 shooting and also grabbed 12 rebounds. Isaak Rowe followed up that performance with a double-double of his own compiling 12 points and a game-high 16 rebounds.
As a team, OKWU shot 38% (23/61) from the field and 35% (8/23) from behind the three-point line. They converted on 29-of-43 free-throw attempts and outrebounded Bethel 47 to 37 on the glass.
With the win, Oklahoma Wesleyan will face the top overall seed Indiana University East on Friday, March 9th. Tip-off against IU East is scheduled for 8:30 AM CT inside the Sanford Pentagon in Sioux Falls, S.D.
