BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan baseball team swept Roosevelt University (Ill.) on Monday afternoon by scores of 19-0 and 8-1.
Elite pitching and timely hitting led the Eagles to two wins improving their record to 18-2 on the season.
Game 1 – OKWU 19 Roosevelt 0
John Lantigua led No. 5 Oklahoma Wesleyan at the plate in Game 1 as he went a perfect 3-for-3 with a RBI. Nick McGrew drove in four runs on a 2-for-3 effort at the plate, while Ryan Lujan collected two hits in his three at-bats. Rodolfo Oleta recorded two doubles and two runs scored from the two hole and Austin Sojka went 1-for-2 with two runs scored from the leadoff position. Jakob Edwards came off the bench and went 1-for-2 with two RBI’s and a run scored.
On the mound, Jared Gray pitched a complete game shutout allowing just three hits and striking out ten batters.
Game 2 – OKWU 8 Roosevelt 1
The Eagles kept the pressure on in Game 2 as they crossed the plate eight times on nine hits. John Lantigua continued to stay hot as he went 2-for-2 with a home run, three RBI’s, and two runs scored. Hunter Henry also hit a home run in his 2-for-2 effort at the plate. Austin Sojka went 2-for-4 and a run scored, while Nick McGrew went 1-for-1 with an RBI and a run scored.
Claudio Ortiz started on the mound and pitched four innings allowing just two hits and striking out five. Landon Williams, Lizandro Cruz, and Jordan Hill all came into relief combining for three strikeouts and closed out the game for Oklahoma Wesleyan.
Oklahoma Wesleyan will jump back into conference play when they host the University of Saint Mary for a three-game series on Friday, March 9th and Saturday, March 10th. First pitch for Game 1 on Friday is scheduled for 12:00 pm at Doenges Memorial Stadium.
