No. 9 Eagles eased to 3-1 win over Oklahoma City

OKLAHOMA CITY (Box Score) — The ninth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan University picked up another victory this season, this time over Oklahoma City University on the road on Tuesday night.

However, the Eagles had to come from behind this time for the win, with Luka Milicevic, Lucas Almeida and Brandon Disney getting the goals for the Jamie Peterson coached side.

OCU had struck first through Ruy Vaz, an NJCAA All-American last year and he finished off a cross from Kieran McLachlan after 13-minutes.

But OKWU controlled the game afterward though and was rewarded when Milicevic found the visitors’ equalizer.

A corner kick taken by Almeida was only partially cleared by the Oklahoma City defence and Milicevic managed to bend home a shot around goalkeeper Joey Shulberg to tie the game at 1-1 after 18 minutes.

The Eagles continue to dominate following the half-time interval and took the lead in the 69th minute, through senior captain Almeida, who fired home a rocket into the top corner of the goal that hit the crossbar and went in.

And it was 3-1 three-minutes later when Disney scored for the Eagles, which improved to 5-1 on the season.

“I am proud of our effort tonight, it was a team effort,” head coach Peterson said. “The guys continue to improve and work hard. Every game different guys step up to help us.

“OCU are a good team and very dangerous, we felt like they are a team that can surprise anyone. Preparing for them, I felt a sense of urgency, as they have an ability to win big games at their home field.

“Our guys did a great job of stopping Adam Black and Danny Frid. Both players are quality and we knew it would take a great effort to keep them in check.”

Oklahoma Wesleyan return to action when they take on Bethany College (2-1) on Saturday in Lindsborg, KS.
