Bartlesville, Okla. – The Lady Eagles continued their quick hitting offensive attack Thursday evening as they welcomed Southwestern Christian. OKWU would not waste time to quickly jump out to a 2-0 lead within the first two minutes of the game on goals from sophomores Laura Maria and Rayssa Souza. Then they opened up the flood gates as the Lady Eagles would finish the first half with an 8-0 lead. OKWU outshot Southwestern Christian 20-1 in the first half and 27-2 for the game. The Lady Eagles would secured their first shutout of the 2019 season 10-0.
Maria got the high-powered offense rolling for the night as she found the back of the net on a nice cross from Junior midfielder Marjolen Nekesa. She would also add her second goal of the game late in the first half along with an assist in the second half. Souza followed up her career day of 6 goals Monday afternoon with an even better 7 goal performance. With 13 goals in her last two games she has quickly jumped out to leading the KCAC in goals scored (16) and shots on goal (20) in only 4 games. She also added 2 more assist to her 2019 resume. Junior forward ReNaisha Mitchell also joined in on the scoring frenzy of the first half of the game as she collected her first goal as an Eagle and an assist.
WIth the win, the Lady Eagle are now 3-2 on the season and will begin their KCAC conference play on Tuesday, September 24th at 5:30 PM as they will host the Bethany College Swedes at the OKWU Soccer Complex.
