Bartlesville, Okla. – Shortly following a 2-3 loss at the hands of #9 Baker University, #6 Oklahoma Wesleyan University men’s soccer team displayed an emphatic 8-0 win against a RV MidAmerican Nazerene University.
Senior forward Khesanio Hall began the scoring barrage when he converted a through pass from Junior midfielder Stefan Lukic. It did not take long before sophomore Matheus Ferreira’s half volley shot hit the crossbar and connected with the back of the net in the 10th minute. Senior forward Alberto Picchi, found hijmself in a good position for an excellently crossed ball from Hall on the right wing and tapped in to make it 3-0. Junior substitute, Alex Lozano made his appearance in the 25th minute and it did not take him long before he converted a left wing cross from freshman Victor Crispim to make it 4-0. Lozano added a brace for himself through a breakaway to make it 5-0 into the half.
Beginning of second half saw MidAmerican Nazarene pile some pressure on OKWU defense, but a good transition from the defensive half to the offense saw Lukic connect with Hall for a one on one opportunity. Hall glided around the MNU goalie and struck his second goal of the day. Ferreira’s effort from the left wing saw him send a hard cross on the ground between MNU defenders and their goalie only to find Picchi score his brace. Picchi also made the final assist for the day when he received the ball on the right wing through a transition and crossed to Crispim. With composure, Crispim was able to finish and collect a goal of his own for the day.
Coach Peterson’s thoughts on the weekend, “I was proud of how are guys bounced back in a tough loss to Baker. I thought we played well for 60 min vs baker but let down and it cost us. To bounce back with an 8-0 win vs MNU, was a tremendous response. I have a lot of respect for coach Warlock and his program. We were fortunate to catch them after he has lost several players to injuries. They will bounce back.”
The OKWU men’s soccer will hit the pitch again as they will hit the road on September 13th to take on #20 Columbia university at 7 PM.
