BARTLESVILLE, Okla. – Oklahoma Wesleyan women’s basketball suffered their second-straight loss after being downed by Saint Mary 65-61 inside the Mueller Sports Center.
In a tight game the entire 40 minutes, the Lady Eagles were unable to overcome a late run by the Spires. With the loss, OKWU is now 16-8 overall and 10-6 in conference play. They sit in a three-way tie for third place with Tabor and Kansas Wesleyan.
Tiffany Rieger led Oklahoma Wesleyan in scoring with 15 points and also added four assists. Danae Goodwin pitched in with 12 points on 5-of-12 shooting and seven rebounds, while Mary Hutchins finished with 11 points and eight rebounds.
Patience Gitau came up one shy in points and rebounds for a double-double as she finished with nine points and nine rebounds.
As a team, the Lady Eagles shot just 35% (24/69) from the field and 17% (4/23) from behind the three-point line. They outrebounded Saint Mary 43 to 35, but were forced into 18 turnovers.
Tiani White led the Spires with a game-high 19 points on a 7-for-9 performance from the field.
Oklahoma Wesleyan’s next game will come against Ottawa University on Wednesday, January 31st. Tip-off against the Braves is scheduled for 6:00 PM inside the Mueller Sports Center.
