Simovic Leads Men’s Soccer to Semifinals After Shutout Win Over No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett

DELRAY BEACH, FL. – The Oklahoma Wesleyan men’s soccer team advanced to the Semifinals of the NAIA National Championship after defeating No. 8 Georgia Gwinnett by a score of 3-0.

This was third straight shutout win for the top-ranked Eagles in the NAIA National Championship.

Aleksandar Simovic got the scoring started and also finished it off to seal the victory for No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan. Simovic drilled a shot in the top right corner of the goal giving OKWU a 1-0 lead in the 30th minute. He then scored in the 72nd minute after beating the goalie one-on-one. Stefan Lukic connected for the other Oklahoma Wesleyan goal in the 62nd minute of the match.

As a team, the Eagles attempted 17 shots with seven of those on target at the goal.

Dusan Djordjev continued his dominance as the goalkeeper compiling five saves in the shutout victory.

No. 1 Oklahoma Wesleyan will battle Wayland Baptist University in a semifinal matchup at the Seacrest Sports Complex. Kick-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM CT.
