Softball 2014 Season Wrap Up

Bartlesville, Okla. — The Lady Eagles Softball team wrapped up their season with a third place finish in the Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference after losing an elimination game to Central Baptist at the conference tournament May 2.

The Eagles mustered just one hit by Allison Edwards in the 2-0 shutout.

The Lady Eagles finished the season with a 26-29 record while going 13-7 in conference.

The Lady Eagles found themselves in the losers bracket after falling 2-1 to #2 seeded Bellevue on a last inning squeeze bunt. They battled back to beat College of St. Mary 5-1 before falling on Saturday to the host team Central Baptist. Bellevue went on to win the tournament and will represent the MCAC in the NAIA National Tournament May 12th.

Senior Miranda Kiser blazed the way offensively in the Eagles 2014 campaign by leading the team in nearly every category: hits (65), batting average (.363), home runs (7), doubles (12), runs scored (48), slugging percentage (.559), RBIs (34), and on base percentage (.441). Junior Christie Bell wasn’t far behind hitting .342 and blasting five home runs.

The team as a whole set many single season records, including total home runs (40), hits (412), doubles (81), at bats (1,454), and slugging percentage (.427). The pitching staff set the record for innings pitched (348.1), strikeouts (350), strikeouts per 7 innings (7.03), opponent batting average (.235), and, most notably, ERA (3.66).

The team was well represented in the all-conference awards. Three were named to All-MCAC First Team including Edwards (OF), Kiser (INF), and Daniel (P). Freshmen Katelyn Cook (C), Wright (INF), and Shepherd (OF) were named to the All-MCAC Second Team, while Bell and junior Leanne Salas were named Honorable Mention.

Kiser and Daniel each shared a part of the highest conference honors as Kiser was named Co-Player of the Year with Shelbi Hatfield of College of St. Mary and Daniel was awarded Co-Pitcher of the Year with Jessica Sheldon of Central Baptist College. Many student athletes will also receive multiple scholar athlete awards in the coming weeks for their hard work in the classroom.

The Lady Eagles say goodbye to seniors Miranda Kiser, Allison Edwards, Macy Wright, Jessica Farris, and Brittany Stevenot. As a whole, this group combined for 98 wins, over 65 home runs, and over 450 RBIs while reaching the conference tournament all four years and making an inaugural NCCAA National Championship appearance in 2013.
