Bartlesville, Okla. By: Stephanie Lindsey – After a decade at the helm, Head Coach Tracie Gillette claims her 200th career win as the Lady Eagles defeated USAO Thursday in a three-set match, 25-13, 25-13, and 25-20. Freshmen Taylor Voight and Lexi Whisenhunt led the lady Eagles’ offense each with 8 kills and no errors. Junior Kenadee Valdez had 7 kills, 4 block assists, and 1 solo block. Junior Karlye Wagner had 5 kills and 1 block assist. Leaders for the OKWU defense consisted of Bobana Marusic with 14 digs and 5 assists, Ashley Cook with 7 digs, and Riley Roth with 4 block assists. Setters Elli Matos-Torres and Cook earned 15 and 13 assists, respectively. With their non-conference victory over USAO, the Lady Eagles improved to 15-9 on the season.
Gillette praises past players, coaching staff, and administration for her success. “I’ve been fortunate and blessed beyond measure to work for a University that has always given me support while building this program.” Gillette goes on stating that her past and present athletes have had a special impact on her life. “These wins aren’t possible without the blood, sweat, and tears of every athlete that has poured into OKWU volleyball. I am forever grateful.”
The Lady Eagles continue conference play on Saturday, October 19th at home against the Ottawa University Braves. JV starts at 12:30pm, with varsity to follow at 2pm.
