Oklahoma Wesleyan’s first-ever Liberty Symposium brought together a number of nationally recognized experts on religious liberty to speak to hundreds of community guests in addition to OKWU students, faculty, and staff throughout the past week.
The week’s events began at a Tuesday evening dinner with Kelly Monroe Kullberg, founder of the Veritas Forum at Harvard, which is now on close to 200 campuses in America and Europe. Ms. Kullberg discussed her story at Harvard and religious liberty on secular campuses. In addition, she shared her newest project: leading the America Conservancy to reinforce and reinvigorate the cultural pillars that have made America great.
On Wednesday, Ms. Kullberg was joined for a Religious Liberty Panel by Gregory Baylor, the D.C.-based senior counsel for Alliance Defending Freedom, and Leah Farish, a Tulsa civil liberties lawyer who has litigated a number of widely recognized civil rights cases. The three panelists provided the audience with answers and explanations for a number of religious liberty issues faced by Christian organizations today.
Liberty week events concluded with the Foster Bonanza, a Constitution Day celebration. The Bonanza was headlined by featured speaker Todd Starnes, who also shared with students in chapel the following morning.
Mr. Starnes, of Fox News & Commentary, talked about the war on religious liberty, calling individuals and churches to engage culture and mobilize believers to speak and act on this defining civil rights issue of a generation. Mr. Starnes also commended Oklahoma Wesleyan and Dr. Piper for being a leading voice for religious liberty.
Joining Mr. Starnes in honoring OKWU was Oklahoma Lieutenant Governor Todd Lamb, who spoke briefly to welcome guests at the Bonanza, and praised the University as one of the “best places to learn, excel, and prepare for life”.
With a successful inaugural session in the books, OKWU is looking ahead to next year’s symposium. If you are interested in keeping up with the latest Liberty symposium news, visit OKWU.edu/liberty to join the mailing list.
