Oklahoma Wesleyan is beginning a new global studies program in cooperation with Under the Fig Tree ministries. Led by Pastor George DeJong, UTFT is a nonprofit organization offering Biblical study tours to Egypt, Jordan, and Israel. The partnership will provide direct experiences of biblical geography, culture and languages with opportunities for face-to-face exchanges with those who have a working knowledge in these fields.

“Under the Fig Tree provides a very unique, hands-on, learning ministry in the biblical lands,” Said Dr. Darek Jarmola, Director of OKWU’s Global Studies program. “For the University, this partnership improves the quality of our academic and ministerial training. Because of this partnership, students will expand and deepen their understanding of the biblical and theological truth. ”

utft-3By partnering with UTFT, Oklahoma Wesleyan will be able to offer trips to locations fundamental to the Biblical story, and provide college-credit for the accompanying classes. Each trip and course will help students deepen their theological understanding of the Old and New Testament narratives. This partnership is another way OKWU provides students with skills to develop a sound worldview by learning what it means to follow Christ in the world today.
