On November 18th at 7:00pm, Oklahoma Wesleyan will have the pleasure of hosting Brian Kilmeade on the Bartlesville campus. Kilmeade is the cohost of FOX & Friends and host of Kilmeade & Friends. He will be bringing an in depth look at his newest book, THOMAS JEFFERSON AND THE TRIPOLI PIRATES: The Forgotten War That Changed American History.

Two hundred and thirty years ago, Barbary pirates raided an American merchant ship sailing off the coast of Portugal. The captured crew had three choices: convert to Islam, attempt to escape, or wait for their country—which had not yet elected its first President—to ransom their release. Over the next ten years, hundreds of American men, women, and children traveling across the Mediterranean would suffer this same fate while their Founding Fathers decided what to do about it: pay for peace or, in the words of Thomas Jefferson, America’s then Minister to France, “obtain it by war.”

Thomas Jefferson And The Tripoli Pirates is an action-packed read with surprising parallels between America’s early years and current events. The true story of the United States’ first national crisis, says author, General Stanley McChrystal (Ret.), “Reads like a fast-paced thriller but is actually a thoughtful account of America’s first foray into what has become a complex part of the world.”

At this event for the whole family, Kilmeade will share some of background of the book and tell some great stories. The book will be offered at a special rate by OKWU and Mr. Kilmeade will be available to autograph copies. The event begins at 7:00pm in the Lyon Chapel & Fine Arts Center, and registration is free to the community and students of all ages. To register or get more information, visit okwu.edu/events or call 918.335.6225.
