Graduate Assistant for the School of Education

PURPOSE OF POSITION:
Provides assistance recruitment, retention, and refinement of teacher education candidates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide one-on-one tutoring, instruction, and feedback for students in need of remediation on the required state certification exams.
  • Take minutes during SoE meetings and archive meeting minutes appropriately for accreditation visits.
  • Managing the data for accreditation reports through importing, exporting, and running reports.
  • Assist professors with the writing of program reviews.
  • Assist students in need of remediation on state certification exams.
  • Occasional proctoring of classes during testing.
  • Track checkout/return of iPads, laptops, Chromebooks, and other curricular material for students.
  • Maintain the upkeep of the curriculum lap and ed tech lab so methods courses are able to use these spaces.
  • Occasional class attendance to review concepts taught to students in order to reinforce learning during tutoring sessions.
  • Oversee work study students when appropriate.
  • Meet with prospective students and parents when appropriate.
  • Work Winter and Spring Commencement events
  • Work university-wide special events when called upon by the Office of the President

 

  • Training will be provided in the following areas:
    • Brightspace setup and usage
    • Assessment practices and procedures
    • Chalk and Wire Administration
    • ZOOM meetings
    • Editing/Writing Tutoring (and all this entails including writing instruction, APA, etc.)
    • Grading and Feedback
    • Classroom Management
    • Pedagogical strategies to use with remedial students
    • The Data Teams Process ® and how to make data-driven decision
  • Required to work a minimum of 20 hours per week.

This job description shall include, but is not necessarily limited to, the above duties.  May temporarily perform other duties assigned to maintain operations and services.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILL REQUIREMENTS:   
Requires a Bachelor’s degree in Education or related field.   Preferred candidates are eligible to apply for an Oklahoma Teacher Certificate.  Requires timeliness and professionalism. Requires knowledge of MS Office suite, ADP training, and online portfolios.

SUPERVISION OF PERSONNEL:           
Work study student(s) for the SoE.
