Starting a graduate degree is a big step, and it’s important to ask the right questions as you make decisions. We sat down with OKWU’s Dean of Nursing, Dr. Jessica Johnson, to talk through some of our most frequently asked questions.
Is the MSN program accredited?
Yes, the MSN program is regionally accredited through HLC and holds special accreditation through CCNE!
The master’s degree in nursing at Oklahoma Wesleyan University is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (aacn.nche.edu/ccne-accreditation).
Is there an entrance exam for the MSN program?
What concentration options do you offer in the MSN program?
Education & Administration. The Education concentration prepares students for the Certification for Nurse Educators (CNE) exam.
Can I take more than one course at a time?
Due to the academic rigor of the nursing program as well as the shortened course length (8 weeks) students will not be allowed to take more than one course at a time.
How long will it take to complete the MSN program?
Going year round it will take approximately 21 months to complete the required MSN courses.
What is the average class size?
Class sizes are small; the average is 10 students per cohort. This gives you the opportunity to build relationships with your cohort and professors, getting one-on-one guidance as needed!
Are there pre-requisites for the MSN program?
Yes, Statistics is required for both concentration tracks. Health Assessment is required for the Education concentration track only.
Are the faculty experienced?
The MSN faculty all have doctorates. Students will get individual attention from faculty members with experience in their field.
Do you offer an RN-MSN program?
The RN-BSN program and the MSN programs are offered separately.
Do you offer a Nurse Practitioner (NP) program?
We currently do not offer an NP program, but reach out to an enrollment manager for direction on how we can help get you prepared for an NP program!
