“Therefore, encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.” (1 Thessalonians 5:11)
OKWU’s Adult and Graduate Studies students come from all walks of life, and must find ways to balance family and career while pursuing their education. It can be stressful and overwhelming, but that’s where the AGS team shines. Their passion is to work with every student to make their degree a success – from a simple encouraging phone call or email, to collecting resources for a student who lost everything in a house fire, and everything in between.
“It’s important to our staff to start by building relationships with our prospective students,” says AGS Director of Enrollment Services, Academic Advising, & Operations, Courtney Roberts, “so they feel a sense of security and confidence that they can succeed. Then we maintain that relationship throughout their program to ensure they reach their goals of degree completion. Many of our staff have completed degrees as adults so they can very easily relate to our students and can speak to them in a way that is comforting, not as if they are just another number at an institution. The greatest moment for our staff is to watch our students walk across the stage at graduation!”
