Graduate and Professional Studies

Oklahoma Wesley University has spent the last fifteen years perfecting what makes online learning unique.

One of the things we have learned? It’s easy to pick up bad learning habits when you are not attending a physical, in-person classroom. Here are some top healthy learning habits to help you be successful while earning your online degree.

Make The Most Of Everything Online

No, we don’t mean turning to Google for test answers! As an OKWU student, whether online or on-campus, you will have access to all our library databases online. These resources will help you when doing research and application papers and presentations. By using scholarly sources, you will expand your knowledge in the subject and get good grade on your assignment.

Take advantage of the personalized help. OKWU has partnered with Tutor.com to offer one-on-one tutoring in any subject that a student may need. From assignment proofreading to complicated accounting homework, OKWU students can get the help they need when they need it.

“Our goal is for you to be present at work, with your family, at school, and in every other life commitment you have, and finding a balance between these will help you achieve this.”

Create A Workspace That Works For You

Everyone’s ideal work environment will be different. For some, a messy desk and piles of clothes are perfect. For others, a clear desk equals a clear mind. Either way, you’ll have to figure out what kind of workspace helps you settle into the school-mode mindset.

In a classroom, you may automatically fall into that mindset when you step into the room. When learning online, you have to trigger that yourself.

Once you have figured out what kind of space helps you get into school mode, stick with it. Re-create that space as often as possible when you are focusing on school, and you will be sure to trigger that learning mindset.

Stay Engaged

It’s easy to become a passive learner when taking online classes, letting your mind drift as you stare at a screen. This is exactly what you want to avoid.

We have tailored our courses to be as engaging as possible, but learning is a two-way street. You will get out of online learning what you put into it.

To make the most out of your time at OKWU, you need to be an active participant in the classes you take. Ask questions; engage in the discussions happening in the class; form working connections with your peers; make a conscious effort to be switched on during your dedicated school hours.

Create A Life/School Balance

It will be hard at first to separate school and the rest of your life, so try and do this early on to make it a good habit.

Not only will the separation help you organize your workload clearly, but it will also be easier to concentrate on your schoolwork when you need to. Having your dedicated workspace will help make this separation easier too.

Let the family know when your dedicated school hours are, so that they can help reduce your distractions. Our goal is for you to be present at work, with your family, at school, and in every other life commitment you have, and finding a balance between these will help you achieve this.
