“No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefit of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance.” -Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972
Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 and the regulations promulgated thereunder (“Title IX”) prohibit discrimination on the basis of sex in any federally-funded education program or activity. Sexual harassment, which includes incidences of sexual assault, dating violence, domestic violence, and stalking, is a form of sex discrimination under Title IX.
Because Oklahoma Wesleyan University accepts federal student loans as payment of tuition, it is obligated to comply with Title IX requirements. More importantly, OKWU is steadfastly committed to providing a campus environment free from discrimination, including discrimination based upon sex. The University provides support and resources to students, faculty, and staff to address concerns related to sex discrimination, including incidences of sexual harassment and sexual assault. That support and those resources are listed below.
OKWU is deliberately intentional and committed to making the OKWU campus a place that fosters positive, respectful, healthy, and safe relationships among all members of the campus community, as Christ has taught us to do.
To this end, the University has appointed Kyle White, Vice President for Student Development, as the Title IX Coordinator for the University. As Title IX Coordinator, Mr. White has the following responsibilities:
Responsibility for overall Title IX compliance
Oversight of the investigations initiated by the filing of a formal complaint
Assisting the complainant in identifying the appropriate University policy and personnel to help to resolve the complaint in a prompt and equitable manner
A central source for all sexual harassment/misconduct allegations on campus
Responsibility for ‘climate checks’/tracking/monitoring sexual harassment/misconduct allegations on campus
Coordination of education and prevention efforts
Filing required reports with all applicable governmental authorities
