Corey Chaney

I am originally from Bartlesville, Oklahoma. I spent 5 years in the United States Army as an Airborne Combat Operations Team Sergeant and Training Room Non-Commissioned Officer for the 4th Infantry Division and 10th Special Forces Group in Fort Carson, Colorado, as well a year in the Oklahoma National Guard as a Section Chief for a Human Resources division. I accumulated over 19 months of overseas combat experience. During my second tour to Afghanistan in 2018, I began my college education with Oklahoma Wesleyan in our GPS program! Once out of the military, I switched over to our traditional enrollment and stayed at Oklahoma Wesleyan for the remainder of my sophomore year while I coached Wesleyan Christian School Football. I got the opportunity to transfer to Oklahoma State University and serve on the Recruiting and Operations staff for Head Coach Mike Gundy and the Cowboy Football program. I graduated from Oklahoma State with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and Management. Following my degree, and prior to joining OKWU, I spent time in Human Resources for Phillips 66, and as an Operations Coordinator for the University of Colorado Police Department and Athletics.

The best part about my job is…

Getting to help someone begin or continue their college journey! We have an amazing team of servant leaders dedicated to doing the grunt work of getting students on campus.

My favorite place to hang out on campus is…

Either outside the library with a view of the pond, or my office (where the work gets DONE!)

OKWU is special because…

You will come away from your experience with some of the most authentic relationships and memories you could ask for, all the while gaining a superior education from faculty and leaders who care about you.

I’d tell a prospective OKWU student…

Decide what kind of college experience you are looking for, whether it be the big city and large classroom type setting, or the smaller town and more intimate classroom style where you can really build intentional relationships with just about everyone involved in your college experience. Pray about it, come visit, then pray about it some more!! If OKWU is where you’re supposed to be, you’ll know.

When I’m not working, I like to…

When I’m not on campus, you can catch me at City Church on Sundays playing guitar on the worship team, or at Colaw Fitness!
