2023 Impact Report

MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT

It was an exciting academic year at OKWU! Thank you for supporting the mission of this university.

SPIRITUAL LIFE

God was on the move across our campus! Rev. Torrey Martin became the first ever full-time campus pastor for OKWU last summer. Under her leadership, our campus focused on the Good News of the Gospel in chapels, devotions, and in classroom discussions. We were so excited to see 25 students make public confessions of their faith and be baptized here on our campus.

STEWARDSHIP

In October 2022 we announced the NOW Campaign, officially launching the largest capital campaign in the history of Oklahoma Wesleyan University. As we raise $68 million between now and 2030, there will be investments in OKWU’s athletics facilities, campus improvements, and increased endowment. We’ve already raised more than $6 million in the first year of the campaign and established the Dr. Ted Suffridge Professorship. On Give Day, donors raised $85,000 for the Annual Fund. Praise the Lord! Would you prayerfully consider a pledge and partner with us to ensure that OKWU remains a healthy and vibrant institution for the next generation?

ACADEMICS

We continue to innovate our academic offerings at Oklahoma Wesleyan University, and this year we announced the launch of four new bachelor’s degrees that will give students opportunities to earn degrees in fast-growing tech fields. With the launch of OKWU Pro, you can now earn over 350 certifications online affordably to sharpen your skills and strengthen your resume. And just recently, we announced that OKWU’s Doctor of Nursing Practice program earned full accreditation from the CCNE.

ALUMNI

OKWU alumni continue to make a difference all over the world. We welcomed more than 200 Miltonvale alums to Homecoming last October. It was a joyous time to celebrate with so many from that important chapter of OKWU’s heritage. Rebecka Peterson (’09) was named the 2023 National Teacher of the Year earlier this spring! We are excited to see the new opportunities she will have to influence and encourage educators in this new role.

COMMUNITY

With the launch of PATH Coaching, students currently on campus have the opportunity for 1-on-1 mentorship, and the program plans to continue to expand as we involve alumni in this important task of preparing our students for success in their futures. And of course, we welcomed more than 200 new alumni to the club as we celebrated our fall and spring graduations!

ATHLETICS

It was another great year for OKWU Athletics! Three of our programs won KCAC regular season championships. Laura Maria was named the NAIA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year, the first recipient of that award in OKWU women’s soccer history. Eleven other athletes received NAIA All-American honors, and members of the OKWU Wrestling and OKWU Track teams qualified for their respective NAIA Championships. OKWU’s Croquet dominance was on display again as the Eagles won the 6th national championship in program history. Tracie Gillette was named the KCAC Volleyball Coach of the Year for the first time. She led the Lady Eagles to a 34-3 record in a record-setting season.

Thank you for partnering with us as we seek to advance the Kingdom of God! We believe that even greater things are on the horizon for Oklahoma Wesleyan University.
