Jazmin Avila-Lara

My journey at Oklahoma Wesleyan University began back in 2021 as a freshman. Four years later I can say that I was so happy to graduate from the university with a bachelor’s degree in graphic design and strategy.

Today I can say that it is a privilege to work with the university in the Business Affairs Department as the cashier and mail room manager.

What makes OKWU a special place to you?

OKWU is special to me because it’s where I’ve grown both personally and professionally. While balancing work and school has become challenging, this community has encouraged me, strengthened my faith, and helped me shape my vision for the future.

What advice would you give to a prospective student?

My advice to a prospective student is to embrace the journey and be patient with yourself. College can be challenging, especially when balancing life and school, but every step helps you grow. Build connections, stay curious, and don’t be afraid to ask for help. Show up, stay committed, and trust the process – it’s worth it.
