A Growing Partnership Rooted in Shared Mission
Oklahoma Wesleyan University’s partnership with the Global Methodist Church (GMC) continues to deepen as the denomination recently announced the first institutions officially approved through its Ministry and Higher Education Commission. This milestone marks an important step in the GMC’s commitment to theological education and clergy formation—and reaffirms OKWU’s role in preparing students for Christ-centered leadership within the global Church.
In October 2024, OKWU was named as an approved university for the Global Methodist Church, a designation that recognized the University’s alignment with the GMC’s doctrinal commitments, Wesleyan theology, and mission to make disciples of Jesus Christ. That announcement positioned OKWU as a trusted educational partner within a newly forming denomination focused on faithfulness, accountability, and spiritual formation.
Six-Year Approval for OKWU’s International Programs
As part of the newly announced approvals, OKWU has received Six-Year Approval for International Students Only to pursue ministerial education, placing it alongside respected seminaries such as Asbury Theological Seminary and Wesley Biblical Seminary. This designation affirms OKWU’s strength in serving international students who are preparing for ministry and leadership within the Global Methodist Church. According to the Ministry and Higher Education Commission, approved institutions play a “vital formational role” in the training of clergy. OKWU’s approval reflects confidence in the University’s biblical orthodoxy, academic rigor, spiritual formation, and commitment to preparing leaders who serve both the Church and the world.
