Oklahoma Wesleyan University announced on May 18 that President Jim Dunn has been elected General Superintendent of The Wesleyan Church, the denomination’s highest spiritual and administrative office.
Dunn has served as president of Oklahoma Wesleyan University since 2019, leading the institution through a season of renewed mission clarity, enrollment momentum, and expanding partnerships with churches and ministry leaders. His leadership has strengthened OKWU’s commitment to developing servant leaders who advance the Kingdom of God.
“Serving OKWU has been one of the greatest callings of my and Wendy’s life,” Dunn said. “First as an alumnus, then as president and first lady, we will continue to partner in the mission of developing and sending servant leaders to advance the Kingdom of God.”
As part of Dr. Dunn’s new role, he will continue to maintain a meaningful connection with OKWU. The General Superintendent serves on the University’s Board of Trustees, providing ongoing spiritual leadership and continuity in partnership with the Global Methodist Church. This reflects a shared commitment to developing and sending servant leaders for Kingdom impact.
The Board of Trustees has appointed Dr. Yorton Clark to serve as interim acting president during the search for OKWU’s next president. They have full confidence in the president’s cabinet and university leadership to continue guiding the university forward and sustaining the growth and momentum already underway.
“The Board is deeply grateful for Dr. Dunn’s visionary and faithful leadership,” Clark said. “We celebrate this moment for the global church while remaining confident in the strong leadership and mission of Oklahoma Wesleyan University.”
The university continues to thrive as a Biblically-centered, educational institution that prioritizes the transformation of servant leaders. The future is bright as OKWU continues to grow academic programs and advancement efforts.
