Dr. Craig A. Dunn Receives Honorary Doctorate from OKWU
This spring, Oklahoma Wesleyan University celebrated the remarkable life and legacy of Dr. Craig A. Dunn by awarding its most distinguished academic honor, an Honorary Doctorate of Letters. Dr. Dunn’s life serves as a testament to unwavering faith, exceptional leadership, and a profound commitment to Christ.
Dr. Dunn’s personal faith journey began at age 18 when he dedicated his life to following Jesus. That decision shaped every chapter of his life, from his formative years as a student at Bartlesville Wesleyan College (now OKWU) to the executive roles that would define his professional career. His steadfast devotion to Christ has guided his path, shaping a life of purpose and service.
At his core, Dr. Dunn is a Christ follower and a devoted family man. Since marrying his wife, Tammy, in 1984, he has built a legacy of love and grace with their three children, Stephen, Becky, and Levi, and six cherished grandchildren. Family continues to be the foundation of a life marked by wisdom, humility, and integrity.
Leadership, Character, and Christ
From the earliest days of his academic career, professors and peers recognized that Dr. Dunn possessed a rare combination of intellectual rigor and spiritual discernment. He earned degrees from Oklahoma Wesleyan University and Indiana University School of Law, recognizing that these achievements were not solely for personal gain but tools for serving others.
Dr. Dunn serves as the CEO of the Wesleyan Investment Foundation, where he has stewarded the organization to exceed $2 billion in assets. He also oversees the Wesleyan Pension Fund, ensuring long-term security for many within the church and ministry. Throughout his career, his focus has remained on people, not just processes. A generous mentor, friend, and leader, he has impacted countless lives.
Dr. Dunn’s recent recognition came with a unique introduction at the conferral ceremony. Rather than list accomplishments, OKWU President Dr. Jim Dunn, who is also Craig’s younger brother, honored him with ten poignant two-word phrases. These words painted a vivid picture of his life, not just as a leader of organizations but as a servant leader whose character remains firmly grounded in Christ.
“Craig would give you his shirt if you needed one…” -Dr. Jim Dunn, OKWU President
Among these, “Football Referee” highlighted his adventurous spirit and dedication to fairness; “Church Cheerleader” reflected his passion for championing Christ’s body worldwide; and “Christian Lawyer” affirmed the harmony between his legal expertise and spiritual integrity.
“Craig would give you his shirt if you needed one… and I’m proud of him. Grateful to be his little brother.” said President Dunn, capturing the spirit of the day. Not just because of the family bond, but because of the deep admiration shared by all who know Craig’s life and legacy.
