$10,000 annually
The Dean’s Scholarships are awarded to extraordinary students committed to excellence in their studies and poised for success in the future. Each Dean chooses students who represent the best of their chosen discipline. Ready to apply?
Scholarship Details:
- $10,000 annual award for recipients, $2000 for finalists, and $1000 for qualified applicants
- Requires application, 3.5 high school or college cGPA, and 2-3 page essay
- Renewable with a 3.3 cGPA
- Must be a full-time, on-campus student
- Requires service hours within the school as determined by the dean
- Stackable with other OKWU aid except for the Presidential Leadership Scholarships, athletic agreements, and percentage of tuition scholarships
- Eligible students must be first-time students/transfers for the 2023-2024 academic year
- Application packet due May 15
Application Process:
Application packets are reviewed to make sure students have met the requirements and that their FAFSA has been submitted by the deadline. Approved applicants will receive an invitation to interview for the scholarship. Once the interviews have been completed the interview panel selects the recipients. Recipients do have responsibilities once they arrive on campus. The dean of the school has the details of the responsibilities of recipients once they arrive at OKWU. Recipients will sign contracts regarding student life and expectations.

School of Arts & Sciences
Dean’s Scholarship School of Arts & Sciences (DS A&S)
The focus of the DS A&S is on the fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20) using innovation and creativity within a particular field of study. To apply for the DS A&S a student must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA once at OKWU and partner with the Dean to recruit and retain students through reinforcing the mission of OKWU (5hrs a week).
In addition to being academically strong, applicants need to present themselves well, be socially adept, have the ability to work well with others, and have a heart for serving others in their everyday lives.
To be considered for the DS A&S a student must submit an OKWU application packet plus the following:
- Completed Online Application
- 2023-2024 FAFSA submitted to OKWU or FAFSA wavier
- 3 Reference Letters (one is from their pastor – letters cannot come from OKWU staff/faculty)
- A 2-3 page essay discussing community service experience, high school and youth group involvement, and plan for involvement as an OKWU Eagle specifically answering the following:
- What is your personal testimony?
- Why do you want attend OKWU?
- What is your definition of innovation & creativity in your field of study?
- Do you believe that Christians have a responsibility to create and innovate? Why?
- What is the importance of academic scholarship?
Chesapeake Energy School of Business
Dean’s Scholarship Chesapeake Energy School of Business (DS CESB)
Thank you for your interest in the DS-CESB. To qualify, the incoming student must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition to being academically strong, applicants need to present themselves well, be socially adept, have the ability to work well with others, and have a heart for serving others in their everyday lives.
To be considered for the DS CESB a student must submit an OKWU application packet plus the following:
- Completed Online Application
- 2023-2024 FAFSA submitted to OKWU or FAFSA wavier
- 3 reference Letter (one is from their pastor – letters cannot come from OKWU staff/faculty)
- A 3-5 page essay answering the following:
- Describe your spiritual journey and how you maintain your relationship with Jesus Christ
- Why would you like to attend OKWU?
- Why major in business?
- How do you define success?
- What is your definition of leadership?
- How would you describe a Christian’s responsibility to lead?
- Describe any leadership experience, past or current, in church, school, sports, or community. (email to wweaver@okwu.edu)
If the DS-CESB is awarded, recipients must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA at OKWU and serve approximately 5 hours per week in the CESB for recruiting and retention purposes.
School of Education & Exercise Science
Dean’s Scholarship School of Education & Exercise Science (DS Education)
To apply for the DS Education a student must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Recipients must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA once at OKWU and partner with the Dean to recruit and retain students through reinforcing the mission of OKWU (5hrs a week).
In addition to being academically strong, applicants need to present themselves well, be socially adept, have the ability to work well with others, and have a heart for serving others in their everyday lives.
To be considered for the DS Education a student must submit an OKWU application packet plus the following:

Dean’s Scholarship School of Nursing (DS Nursing)
To apply for the DS Nursing a student must have a growing relationship with Jesus Christ, cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. In addition to being academically strong, applicants need to present themselves well, be socially adept, have the ability to work well with others, and have a heart for serving others in their everyday lives.
To be considered for the DS Nursing a student must submit an OKWU application packet plus the following:
- Completed Online Application
- 2023-2024 FAFSA submitted to OKWU or FAFSA wavier
- 3 Reference Letters (one is from their pastor – letters cannot come from OKWU staff/faculty)
- A 2-3 page essay discussing community service experience, high school and youth group involvement, and plan for involvement as an OKWU Eagle specifically answering the following:
- Describe your spiritual journey and what you are learning now?
- Why do you want to attend OKWU?
- Explain God’s calling on your life to become a nurse.
- What is your definition of Kingdom Nursing?
- What is the importance of academic scholarship?
Recipients must maintain at least a 3.3 cumulative GPA once at OKWU and partner with the Dean to recruit and retain students through reinforcing the mission of OKWU (20 hours a month).
